How to be Used by God

Trusting God’s methods is big when it comes to being used of Him!

More Than a Job
Resistance

Scripture Reading: Exodus 4:1-5

Key Verse: Exodus 4:13

But Moses said, “O Lord, please send someone else to do it.”

This week I want to “pound away” at the differences between a job and a ministry! If we are going to be used of God, we must understand that God’s calling on our lives is so much more than a job!

Today, please note Moses’ resistance to God’s calling in his life. This resistance, though not a qualifier, is a normal reaction to God’s calling. Many people resist the nudges of God toward their ministry calling! Let’s look at a couple of reasons this is often the case.

First, ministry will almost always challenge our evaluation of ourselves. Like Moses, we’ll tend to say: “I can’t do it!” God’s calling upon our lives will seldom seem easy, and we tend to like easy! Ministry seldom comes with clear and simple instructions on the “how to’s!” Ministry will demand that we wade in and roll up our sleeves and just do it!

Secondly, God’s calling upon our lives is usually a day by day proposition. We like to see the whole plan, how it works out weeks and months ahead of time. We tend to want a neat little plan that is revealed to us at the moment of the calling! I have never, personally, experienced God operating that way. The Bible characters that were used by God had to jump in – head first – and trust God with future circumstances!

Don’t be surprised when your immediate reaction to a nudge of God is resistance to it – that’s normal. Trusting God’s methods is big when it comes to being used of Him!

Father, I feel nervous and fearful when faced with ministry… grant me your peace as I take the plunge! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
