The Cross is an Obstacle to Logic
The Offense – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:24-31
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 1:23
…but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles
Yesterday we studied the fact that the Jews loved their “law keeper” style of salvation so much that they missed salvation by God’s love and grace! You and I must be careful not to cling to any thoughts or beliefs just because we have believed them for a long time. Time does not turn a lie into a truth. Just because you have thought a certain way, possibly since childhood, doesn’t necessarily make it true. A mature, growing Christ follower must be constantly searching the scriptures for new wisdom and new revelations.
When we are first saved, we are babies in Christ. As we grow, we gain knowledge and understanding—at least that is God’s desire for all of us. God does not dump the entire wisdom of heaven on us all at once. The plan was to have pastors and teachers to present truth—God’s truth—over a period of a lifetime. This process, according to Ephesians 4:12, is to prepare God’s people for works of service and become mature in Christ.
When a pastor or teacher offers a thought that you had never thought of or a thought that contradicts a thought you had held as truth, be careful how you handle that. Examine it with the scripture, be open to what God may be trying to reveal to you. Don’t be offended!
Father, may my walk with you stay new and fresh. I want you to grow me into the mature follower that can represent you well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
