Mature Servants
Serve One Another – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 4:7-11
Key Verse: 1 Peter 4:10
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.
Did you know you are a gifted person? That is a very true statement if you have received Jesus into your life. The Bible tells us that each one of us has received a gift from God. The Apostle Peter’s words are clear: “God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts” (1 Peter 4:10 NLT). No one is left out—all believers are gifted!
What did God have in mind when He decided to give these gifts to His children? Is it like Christmas, a gift to each person for them to enjoy? No, in fact it is the exact opposite; Peter finishes his thoughts in verse ten: “Use them well to serve one another.” We are gifted by God for the singular purpose of serving! In God’s world this is the highest honor: Serving others well. How does God feel when He sees His children, whom He has gifted, living their lives without using the gift that He gave them? We don’t have to guess; in Matthew’s gospel, Matthew 25, Jesus tells a story to illustrate how God feels about those who don’t use their gifts. The bottom line of that story: “And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 25:30). Take note, God sees His children as servants; some are useful and some are useless. It is extremely important to know which group we fall into before we stand before God some day! (Continued)
Father, thank you for granting me your gift; a precious spiritual blessing. I will use it to serve those around me! In Jesus’ name, amen.
