God Desires
God Desires Fellowship – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Genesis 2:1-9
Key Verse: Genesis 2:7
…the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
As we studied yesterday, God wants to have fellowship with us, that is why He breathed His breath into us. Look at some of the phrases that define the word fellowship: “Companionship; communion between two people; community of interest, feeling; an association of persons having similar tastes, interests, etc.” (dictionary.com). When the Bible tells us that God desires fellowship with us, it is saying God wants companionship; a relationship of common interest. God doesn’t need fellowship, but He desires it. We are made in His image and when we allow our sins to be forgiven by our faith in Jesus, our fellowship with God is restored.
Once our fellowship with God has been restored, the Holy Spirit slowly but consistently leads us to having similar interests as God does. The things we used to be interested in will fade away as we follow the leadings of God’s Spirit. Fellowship with God is not static—it is a living, growing life in itself. The more we listen and obey the Spirit of God in us, the more we have fellowship with God. Our common interests with God grow which leads us into fellowship with other believers because they are being drawn to these same common interests. The true church is the body of believers, who have fellowship with God and one another. The family of God is blessing. Be a part.
Father, thank you for drawing me into fellowship with you and your other children. In Jesus’ name, amen.
