Victory Over Strongholds

The best way to spot a lie is to know the truth; the devil is a liar, but Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Victory Over Strongholds
The Stronghold of Doubt – Part III

Scripture Reading: Mark 14:22-33

Key Verse: Mark 14:31
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

The internet causes a lot of problems for society, but people also use it for the good of God’s Kingdom.

I mentioned in yesterday’s devotional about Googling subjects that we want Bible verses on. What a great tool for anyone who wants to fight doubts or any other stronghold.

When I first entered the ministry, I had a library of big and heavy commentary books to use for my studies. The internet provides great free commentaries on any verse of the Bible about which you have questions. These links can be a great weapon against the enemy’s darts of doubt.

These weapons are the way we can study the Bible rather than simply reading it.

Remember your days in school and the tests that were in textbooks? In preparing for a test, if you only read the material, you probably did not do very well. If you studied the material by making notes and getting answers to questions that came up as you read, you probably did better on the test.

So it is if we want to be victorious over the strongholds that come against us: we need to study the Bible, not just read it casually.

No matter what temptations come our way, God’s Word makes the difference between failure and victory. Matthew 4:1-11 describes the time when the Spirit led Jesus into the desert so the devil could tempt Him. Jesus destroyed each temptation by quoting scriptures to the devil.

If Jesus used the Scriptures to be victorious, shouldn’t we?

Think about it. All temptations are lies of the evil one. The best way to spot a lie is to know the truth.

For example, there was a day when people thought the earth was flat. What finally destroyed that lie? It was the truth… the reality that the earth is round, and that gravity keeps centrifugal force from flinging us into space.

The more we study the Bible the better we get in seeing the lies that the devil attacks us with. When the devil tries to condemn us, we need to quote Romans 8:1 back at him:

there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

Break the stronghold of doubt by reading your Bible daily, studying the Bible regularly, and using all the tools available to know the truth. The truth will set you free!

Father, when I read Your Word, help me to gain the insights that will help me walk in faith and victory. I ask this in Jesus’s Name, amen.
