The Devil and Diversion
Making Every Effort
Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:10-13
Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:14
So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
I want to encourage you, if you have not already, to take time to read the suggested scripture reading passages. They remind us of the last days of this planet earth. Everything is going to be destroyed and God is going to create a new heaven and a new earth. We will be able to live without the harassment of sin and the evil one forever and ever!
This section of scripture also asks a critical question: “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” (2 Peter 3:11). It gives us the answer: “You ought to live holy and godly lives…” In other words, when all this starts to happen, we do not want to need emergency adjustments to our lifestyles. We need to be living in a way that is pleasing to the Lord; ready to go up when He comes down.
Our key verse then tells us how to assure our place on the new earth: “Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with Him.” Are you making every effort? Are you fighting the diversions that the evil one is throwing your way? Are you involved in any behavior that you don’t want to be doing when Jesus comes back to this earth after His followers? Allow today’s scripture to build a fresh passion in you to make every effort in building a strong relationship with God through Jesus Christ!
Father, help me to see areas of my life that are not spotless. Give me the courage to deal with any diversions to living a holy life. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, amen.
