Being Faithful – Part 2

Scripture Reading: Luke 16:9-12

Key Verse: Luke 16:10

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.

Do you know what I am really good at? I have perfected the art of beating myself up for my many weaknesses and failures. Are you good at that? Unfortunately, too many of us allow our weaknesses and failures to drain us of our joy in the Lord. God knew us and all our junk long before we knew it about ourselves. He chose to love us and show His power in and through us in spite of all our brokenness.

The Apostle Paul wrote: “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us” (2 Corinthians 4:7). We are the jars of clay and His presence is the treasure. It is not an accident that we, His children, walk around on this earth in very imperfect ways. The plan of God was not to impress the world with our successes but with the success of Jesus in us. Clay jars are fragile, easily broken, and given to decay. You and I are fragile in our walk with God. We are easily broken by our weak natures and limited energy levels. We get frustrated easily and instead of holding it together, we break easily. Yet, in the midst of these realities, God has decided to love us and show off Jesus in us, turning our weaknesses into things that accomplish His purposes. What does God require of us? It’s simple but not always easy: Faithfulness!

Father, I pledge my faithfulness to you today. With the help of your Spirit in me, I will serve you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
