The devil loves to paint God as a strict, mean spirited dictator

First Words of Evil
Did God Really Say – Part 2

Scripture Reference: Genesis 3:1-6

Scripture Verse: Genesis 3:1

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

Continuing from yesterday’s devotional, we see the second part of the devil’s first recorded lie: “…you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden.” The evil one knew, of course, that God had not put that mean spirited restriction on Adam and Eve. How terrible would that be to create this beautiful garden, with lush fruit trees and then tell them not to touch any of them. But that is what the devil accused God of, and continues to do that to us as well.

The devil loves to paint God as a strict, mean spirited dictator, doing His best to take away our pleasures. I’m sure you have felt or heard of those who felt that God was out to take away all their fun. Think of the millions of people who won’t come to faith because they think it will wreck their lives, taking good things from them.

That lie has wrecked many, when the truth is God wants nothing but the best for those who chose to follow Him! There was only one tree that God asked them not to eat from; God knew it would not bless them, but harm them. If God asks you to stop doing something that you find enjoyable, it’s because He knows something that you don’t. God hates anything that will hurt His people, even if it seems enjoyable to them at the moment. (Continued)

Father, I praise you for watching over me, protecting me from those things that harm me – even when I’m unaware how. In Jesus Name, amen.
