Power over Fear
A Spirit of Timidity – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6-12

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

As we continue from yesterday’s devotional, let me ask you a question: Do you relate to Timothy’s tendency to fear?  When you think about the challenges of your life, do you feel timid and doubtful?  If so, God wants to help you by putting awareness in your mind and heart.  You are no longer alone, when faced with problems.  God is our helper, our friend closer than a brother.  The Hebrew writer was clear: “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear.  What can mere people do to me?”  (Hebrews 13:6 NLT).

The Bible is full of promises that assure us that there is no reason for God’s people to fear.  We are told to live with boldness and confidence.  God told His children in the Old Testament: “So be strong and courageous!  Do not be afraid and do not panic before them.  For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you.  He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”  (Deuteronomy 31:6).

God is always faithful to keep His word and do His part in all our problems.  It is our responsibility to handle the problems as God has instructed us to: “with courage”!  I am to walk into meetings or make tough phone calls—with courage.  Remember, the correct definition of courage is not the absence of fear; rather, action in spite of fear.  Our flesh is often fearful, but our God-given spirit can take over and rule over our flesh!  Claim your spirit of power!

Father, I will not allow my flesh to rule my life today.  I will live by your Spirit in me and enjoy the spirit of power, love and self-discipline.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
