We don’t have to continually cycle failure and victory

Grumbling is Against God
Again and Again – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Psalm 78:34-42

Key Verse: Psalm 78:41

Again and again they put God to the test; they vexed the Holy One of Israel.

The Psalmist is once again reminding us and warning us of the human tendencies.  Take note of today’s key verse: “Again and again they put God to the test…”  If you were able to read the suggested reading passage, you could see the pattern.  God’s people would go through a season when they “remembered that God was their Rock.”  However, the Psalmist followed these words with the dreaded two words: “But then.”  But then the people of God would drift back to disobedience and forget that God was their Rock!

Do you recognize this pattern in your own life?  Is it possible that you have a cycle of “remembering but then forgetting” going on in your life?  Most of us have gone through this cycle more than once in our lives.  However, Jesus came to make it possible to stop those cycles.  Having Jesus in our hearts does not mean we can’t sin.  Having Jesus does mean you don’t have to sin; you don’t have to continually cycle failure and victory.

Upon our acceptance of God’s plan of salvation through Jesus, we receive the Holy Spirit.  This Spirit of Jesus living in us will invite us to come to a place of complete surrender.  When we finally say yes to God’s complete control of our lives, He sanctifies us wholly.  (Continued)

Father, I know you are worthy of being Lord over my entire life.  I surrender control and will allow you to take over!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
