I want His kingdom to come fresh and new upon me, daily

The Spirit Desires

Scripture Reading:  Romans 8:1-8

Key Verse: Romans 8:5

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

In today’s scripture reading we read about how we, as believers, should respond to God’s Spirit.  Paul reminds us that the Spirit has desires for us.  Each day the Spirit examines your day and the people that you will be interacting with.  He wants to accomplish God’s purposes in your day.  He, the third person of the Trinity, moves within us to reveal to us His desires.  The only question will be: How will we respond to His desires?

If we want to live according to the Spirit of God, we must have our mind set on what the Spirit desires.  Each morning we should determine to get our minds ready to respond to the desires of the Spirit.  Before going to work I like to tell God that I want His will in full operation in my life.  I want His kingdom to come fresh and new upon me.  I’m trying to get my mind set to respond to what the Spirit might reveal to me.

It is so easy to allow our days to pass without any intentional effort to hear what the Spirit desires.  Our human nature has a default mode built into it.  This default mode unfortunately responds to the sinful nature, doing what our flesh would desire.  If we are going to walk in the Spirit, we will have to intentionally and manually switch to the Spirit mode and determine to stay in step with Him!

Father, as I start my day, I am ready to receive directions from the Holy Spirit.  I want to live out the Spirit’s desires today!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
