My Reasons to Worship
God at Work – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:12-18
Key Verse: Philippians 2:13
for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
As I consider my reasons to worship I think of some of my favorite promises in God’s Word. For many years now I have relied on our printed key verse for today. It is a verse that describes God at work. It gives us a glimpse of that work—a little like “take your child to work” week. God’s Word is taking us to His work; allowing us to see a small peek of all He accomplishes. It causes me to worship Him!
First, this verse gives us a simple assurance: It is God who works in you. You and I are His special projects. God is so concerned over how we turn out that He goes to work, every day, making something beautiful out of our lives! God knows us so intimately that He can focus on our areas of need. He is a master craftsman—knowing exactly where to start and how fast to go! We need not worry; it is God who is at work!
Secondly, the Apostle Paul points to our will. God works on the inner desires of our lives! God never asks us to fake it. When He works for our change, He puts a desire in us for that change. Certainly, there may be times when He moves us beyond our comfort zone, but even then there is a deep desire that He has planted in us to go the distance! After those events, we normally have a sigh of relief and a feeling of great accomplishment. We can walk in peace because He will cause us to want what He wants.
Father, thanks for caring enough to work on me. Thanks for knowing all my needs. I’ll trust the inner desires of my soul! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
