Narrow Gate – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 7:12-17

But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Continuing from yesterday’s thoughts, we see that we must make choices.  By His death and resurrection Jesus came to provide a path that leads to eternal life.  The path to destruction and eternal punishment was already present in the world that Jesus stepped into.  So, these are the two paths that every living soul must choose between.  God gave us a special gift that no other living being has: free moral agency.  That leaves us responsible to make daily choices for the good or for the bad!

            Will you stay on the path that leads to life in Christ eternally?  If so, make good choices today.  These good choices are scattered throughout the Bible.  In order to make good choices throughout our day, we must read the Bible.  We must make sure we are filling our minds with the teachings of Jesus.  When we know His teachings and daily choose His teachings over worldly philosophy, then we are truly Christ followers.

            Jesus’ words, “only a few will find it” are haunting words in my opinion.  Jesus is admitting that His way of doing life will not be the popular way that most will choose.  Will you determine to be one of the few?  Or, will your decisions today prove that you have taken the wide gate that leads to the broad path and eternal destruction?  I have decided to follow Jesus!

Father, I know that the enemy of my soul will try to knock me off your path.  I claim your power and strength as I live out my day!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
