Plug In…Plant Deep
True Life
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 1:3-7
Key Verse: 1 Timothy 6:19
In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
In our scripture reading section, the Apostle Paul uses a word picture that I really like: “fan into flame.” Timothy was given a gift from God to do good in the Kingdom of God. Paul understood that that gift needed encouragement; it needed “fanning” so that it would grow into a burst of flame that people would take note of and be blessed.
You have no doubt heard Bible teachers and preachers encouraging God’s people to “find their gift” and use it to God’s glory. Have you found your gift? Are you using it on a regular basis? Do you need the apostle Paul’s encouragement to fan your gift into flame? Don’t allow that “spark” God put in your heart to remain dormant! Determine today to get busy finding the good that God has put in your heart to do and do it!
I love the phrase that is in our Key Verse for today: “… so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” Take note of how many people you see today who seemingly have no joy in life; those that are “breathing” but have not found the “true life” God has for all who will believe and follow Him! Timothy was told to “guard what was entrusted to him” (1 Timothy 6:20). What has God entrusted to you? What abilities has He given to you? Are they dormant or actively in service?
Father, I want to be faithful to the ‘gift’ you have planted in my life. I will guard it and use it to build your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
