God’s peace is not dependent on us solving a problem

A Sign of Trust
Joy and Peace – Part 3

Scripture Reading: Romans 15:7-13

Key Verse: Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

As we studied yesterday, we all want a high level of joy in our lives. As the Apostle Paul wrote, we want a large quantity of peace as well. I’ve noticed that if I have peace when I’m going through a season of struggles, I feel ok. It’s not that I like the struggles; however, to have God’s peace flowing through my mind, I have energy to deal with this world’s problems.

Jesus promised to give us peace. He reminds His listeners that His peace was not the peace this world gives; His was a different kind of peace (John 14:27). As we think about peace, we know the kind we get from this world; it’s a peace that comes when we solve a problem or have those rare moments when all seems well in our life. We all love those moments.

Jesus gives a divine peace that permeates our minds—our very souls! His peace is not dependent on us solving a problem or having a restful moment. No—even in the middle of the worst times of our lives, God’s peace is there, assuring us that God is bigger than all our problems. It really is a peace that transcends all understanding! (Philippians 4:7). Unbelievers will look on, seeing all our problems and wonder how we stay calm and enjoy peace. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace AS YOU TRUST HIM!

Father, when doubt knocks at my door, help me to slam the door in the devil’s face. In Jesus’ name, amen.
