Is It Really God?
The Me Filter
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Did you know that once you joined God’s family by believing on Jesus for your salvation, you became a “work” of God? That is what our scripture for today is telling us. We are God’s workmanship and, according to Webster, that means “skill of workman, the way a thing is finished; style.” God has the skill to make you into what He wants as a finished product! You have a “style.” God has shaped it and continues to shape it for the rest of your life! The Bible tells us that God directs our “wanter,” as well as our “actions or behavior.” Read, again, one of my favorite verses: “for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose” (Philippians 2:13). I’ve said all this simply to encourage you to trust yourself. Trust yourself, your wants and desires, your decisions and counsel to others. It may seem like it’s all you, but it really isn’t. God is making you…you!
Hopefully you can see now how you yourself are a “filter” in this process of discerning a nudge. God wouldn’t give you a nudge to do something outside of His “workmanship.” Think about it, God spends months, possibly years, since your conversion, making you into the person He wants you to be. That being true, why would He then nudge you to do something contrary to His perfect work? He wouldn’t! If the nudge you felt doesn’t fit you, dismiss it. Compare the nudge with the rest of your life, the previous nudges and previous victories. If it falls far outside of anything that makes sense for your personal journey with God, it isn’t from God.
Father, I am so thrilled that you are working on me, making me what I can’t make of myself. Keep up your good work. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
