A “Simon” Relationship
A Pure Heart – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Psalm 51:8-15
Key Verse: Psalm 51:10
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
We concluded in yesterday’s devotional that in order to have a pure heart we must enter into a “Simon” relationship. God’s Holy Spirit might be that “Simon” that will reveal some tough truth to you. However, God often uses one of His other children to help us grow in our journey with Him. For me, it was a Christian counselor that looked me in the eyes—on several occasions—and said, “You are wrong!” I had to either accept that and change or continue in my prideful state of defensiveness.
Do you have a mature Christ following friend whom you could give permission to speak into your life? You’ll need to find a friend a little like Simon Cowl, of American idol fame, that is not afraid to be brutally honest. That does not mean that to be brutally honest it has to be harsh and unkind. The Bible reminds us to “speak the truth in love.” A mature Christ follower will do just that, if they are truly mature in Christ.
If you are struggling to find a friend that fits these qualifications, you may need to turn to a good Christian counselor. It may cost a few dollars, but I believe you’ll never regret what that relationship will do for you! Again, I believe a “Simon” relationship is an indispensible relationship at times in our lives!
Father, I open my life to your work. Please create in me a pure heart. I surrender to your unlimited wisdom! In Jesus’ name, amen.
