My Desires
Temptation 101 – Part 1
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:9-15
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
One might describe our key verse for today as a classic when it comes to a discussion about temptation. This one verse contains several promises to us and helps us overcome temptation. I hope you will memorize it and its location in the Bible. All believers need this verse and must learn to claim it during their hours of temptation.
The first promise is that God will not let you be tempted with anything unusual. Your temptations are not unique! Don’t allow the devil to tell you that “no one else is tempted like you are”! He is trying to get you to excuse caving in to your temptation. Remind yourself often that what you face, others have faced and have been victorious over it. From the beginning of time, when man fell to his first temptation, the nature of temptations has been basically the same. Sexual temptations, along with pride and greed, have been the main areas where man has always struggled. You are not alone in your struggles; many have gone before you fighting the same basic battle! The devil is a liar and a father of lies; call him out and demand God’s truth to rule your life. God has set limits of the kinds of temptations He will allow the evil one to use. They are “common to men.”
Father, I know your truth will set me free. I will keep your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you! In Jesus’ name, amen.
