Christ followers often set their sights far too low, as far as a lifestyle

Everyone Sins?
Set Your Sights – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1-10 NLT

Key Verse: Colossians 3:5

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

My devotional title for today and tomorrow is “Set Your Sights.”  I believe that we must be careful on what we set our sights, for that is often where we will find ourselves.  Many Christ followers have set their sights far too low, as far as a lifestyle.  They have believed the message that it is impossible to live above sin.  Since they believe it is impossible, the effort to not sin is nearly non-existent.  The scripture continually challenges us to set our sights on a higher goal.  Our printed key verse for today tells us to “put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you” (Colossians 3:5).  It doesn’t say, “wound it.”  It says, “put it to death”!

We are to “put on the new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him” (Colossians 3:10).  When you get up each morning, where do you set your sights, as far as the way you will live?  Are you determined to please God and not grieve Him?  We may not accomplish this high goal every day, but we certainly won’t if it’s not even in our sights.  This walk with God is a cooperative effort between God and us.  We must set our sights and do our best to please Him.  It will take God’s help and the power of His Holy Spirit in us to overcome the sin that lurks around us!  We can do all things through Christ!  (Continued)

Father, I will set my sights on living victorious over sin today!  I am dependent on your help!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
