Immorality Unchecked
Eternal Consequences – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:17-21
Key Verse: Galatians 5:19
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures
What should be the response from God’s people to the moral tolerance of our culture? I believe we must be thoughtful and careful in how we approach our culture. The Bible reminds us not to just speak the truth, but to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Our society is not going to respond well to a street corner preacher condemning couples living together before marriage and other low standards of morality. We must work within the context of our relationship. People of God who have learned to love—truly love people who are lost—can speak into their lives effectively. The most effective sermons on morality come as conversations between two people who trust each other.
As a minister of the Gospel I certainly understand my responsibility to speak publicly on God’s holy standards of morality. As I speak to these cultural issues, I believe it can help shape the opinions of God’s people. My goal is to help God’s people develop biblical perspectives and the appropriate wording to our world. However, since most people sitting in church, listening to me preach, are already convinced, the real world-changing work will come from laymen who get it and go into their world living out the message. If the biblical truths are said in the context of a warm relationship, God’s Spirit can work effectively.
Father, help your people be a holy people in the midst of a immoral world. In Jesus’ name, amen.
