Grow Yourself Up
Be a Seeker
Scripture Reading: Psalm 51:1-10
Key Verse: Psalm 53:2
God looks down from heaven
on the sons of men
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.
The Bible teaches the concept of being a seeker of God. God wants that from His creation. Jesus reminded us that God wants followers who seek to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). The Psalmist David tells us that God is looking down from heaven to see if any are seeking God.
This is a critical part of growing up in the Lord; becoming a daily seeker! We never arrive or are satisfied that we have received all that we need in this area. There will (and should) be a constant hunger and thirst for deeper levels. I believe that causes some Christ followers to wonder if they are where they should be. They feel this inner ache for more of God, which may make them feel inadequate as Christ followers. The exact opposite is true; there should be a “holy discontent” in our walk with God. We should desire a closer walk and a deeper understanding of Him. This doesn’t speak to our inadequacy, but rather our becoming a genuine seeker of God.
David, in our suggested additional reading, deals with his sin. We see that sin in a believer should drive us to more seeking and desperate longing for God. Too often the devil uses our failure to condemn us and discourage our efforts to follow God. Don’t listen to his lies. Yes, we should repent of sin, but then allow it to drive us to get more of God. Seek Him with more fervency, not less!
Father, your mercy astounds me; your love for me is amazing! I will daily seek after more of you. Please take me deeper. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
