Who is a Loser?
Evil Desires – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:19-21
Key Verse: Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Let’s continue our study from yesterday by looking at some ways to create wholesome patterns of thinking. In order to start this process we all must understand how subtle messages slip into our minds. Advertisers are very aware of the power of these subtle messages. When they want to advertize a new car model, they carefully place around it elements to give a message. Usually this includes a beautiful woman standing beside the car. She will be dressed in expensive, revealing clothing. These advertisers know that this subtle message works its magic on millions of viewers. The message is that buying the car will bring the purchaser into that glamour world, attracting beautiful people to them.
There are hundreds of other illustrations of how a worldly philosophy can invade our minds. Our job is to identify it quickly as it slips into our minds and “put it to death.” God’s truth will be the weapon that powerfully accomplishes this death blow. We must fill our minds with scripture, memorizing verses as much as possible. Many Christ followers write out a scriptural promise and carry it with them. Whatever it takes, we must be ready to keep evil desires from taking root in our minds. God’s Holy Spirit within us can bring us wisdom and strength to be victors over the enemy’s tricks!
Father, fill me with the knowledge of your will through all spiritual wisdom and revelation. I want to walk worthy of you today! In Jesus’ name, amen.
