You Must Compromise to Succeed
Set Hope Fully
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:10-16
Key Verse: 1 Peter 1:13
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
If you walked into a room, looking for a place to sit, and saw a chair open, you would probably go directly to it and sit down. However, if someone warned you that one of the chairs in that room was unstable, you probably would walk over to it, look closely, and sit hesitantly! Once someone placed doubt in your mind about the chairs in that room, you no longer would fully trust them!
Our scripture for today tells us to set our hope fully on grace, through Jesus Christ. “Fully” is an important word. It indicates lack of doubt, complete trust! When we allow our minds to hesitate and start wondering, as well as worrying about circumstances in our lives, we’re not operating on “full!” As soon as we run into a room, a problem or challenge, let’s learn to immediately walk over to God’s promises and set our hope fully on them!
In this world Christ followers have two things that will put doubts into our heads. First is our own flesh. We are human enough to create doubts in our own mind about God’s reliability. We have fears caused by previous experiences when it seemed like God didn’t come through for us the way we had hoped! The apostle Paul challenges us to take captive these negative thoughts and demand faith over our flesh.
The second thing that challenges our full trust in God is the devil himself. Yes, he is still alive and working to rob us of our hope! The good news is: If we resist him, He will flee.
Father, I will work on my ‘fully trusting’ factor. With your help I want to destroy any doubts about your work in me and for me! In Jesus’ name, amen.
