Growing Our Harmony – Part 2
The Filling
Scripture: Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
I am calling this next benefit of the beatitudes “The Filling.” For clarity, we should consider the emptiness of a heart prior to this filling. Think of the people you know that spotlight their emptiness by constantly running from one thing to another hoping for fulfillment. These are the people who buy things for the sake of buying something, or those who are running from one form of entertainment to another, or those who get caught up in destructive addictions…the endless chasing of the wind. Solomon, the wisest man to have walked this earth, wrote: Ecclesiastes 2:11 – Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.
Jesus comes with the offer to fill us. He understood the emptiness of a person’s heart. He understood that we would try to find substitutes to His authentic filling. He wants us to enjoy the real thing. God wants to fill us with His righteousness.
We need to understand the word “righteousness” if we are going to enjoy the benefit of “the filling.” God is right and He fills us with this “right” …right thinking; right relationships; right ethics; right morals; right connection with God! When we receive the filling, we feel good inside because we’ve been made right!
Have you had this filling? We will see in tomorrow’s devotional that we receive it by faith. When we hunger and thirst for it, we will receive it by our faith in Jesus Christ!
Father, I want to live out of the overflow of this filling! Fill me with your righteousness. I ask it in Jesus’ name, amen.
