Don’t Worry… Be Happy
Choose Your Yoke – Part III
Scripture Reading: Matthew 11:25-30 NLT
Key Verses: Matthew 11:29-30 NLT
“Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Have you ever felt nervous about telling God that He can have total control over you and your life?
When the Apostle Paul begs believers to give their bodies to God as “living sacrifices” (Romans 12:1), does that scare you?
Have you ever hesitated to tell God that you will give whatever amount of money He asks you to give, or go wherever He asks you to go, or do whatever He asks you to do?
I would be surprised if you have not had second thoughts like these. I certainly have.
Some of this is due to our humanness and some of it is due to the evil one that wants us to fear being obedient to God. It is the evil one that wants to stop us from trusting God so completely that we can freely say all these things to Him.
Look what Jesus says in our Key Verse: “because I am humble and gentle at heart”. These are the reasons that we can freely take Jesus’s yoke and allow Him to be our teacher in all things… He is humble and gentle at heart.
If Jesus asks us to give something, do something, or go somewhere, we can rest assured that it is going to turn out good for us! In Matthew 10:38-39 NLT, Jesus reminds all who are hesitant to follow Him:
“If you refuse to take up your cross and follow Me, you are not worthy of being Mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for Me, you will find it.”
What “life” will we find if we willingly give our all to Jesus? Jesus called this life that He gives “a rich and satisfying life”:
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” (John 10:10 NLT)
This is the truth that the evil one does not want you to know or remember when you are deciding whether to give your all to God.
When you hesitate about what God is asking you to give, do, or go… remember, give up your life to Him and you will find out that you gave nothing up compared to the “rich and satisfying” life that Jesus gives to us that sell out to Him!
Will you take Jesus’s yoke upon yourself? Will you allow Jesus to be your teacher above all other voices that try to get your attention? Can you trust Jesus’s own words when He tells you that your life will be rich and satisfying, if you give your life to Him?
Do not hold anything back. Be completely obedient to all God shows you. You will never regret this decision!
Father, I whole heartily give my life to You. Help me be a living sacrifice to You and for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
