Scripture Reading: Luke 10:1-20

Key Verse: Luke 10:20

But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.

Please take note of Jesus’ final words to these 72 disciples: “But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven” (Luke 10:20). Your name represents you and you are an eternal being; you will never stop existing. The only thing that we control is where our name is registered. We were born into sin and inherited a sinful nature. Another way of saying this condition is that our name was registered in hell; our eternal destination if we do nothing to change it. Jesus paid a huge price to give everyone a choice; we can choose to accept the gift of salvation Jesus paid for. If we do, our names are then registered in Heaven.

Where is your name registered? The normal response, for far too many, is “I hope it’s registered in Heaven.” We don’t have to “hope,” we can “know” where our name is registered! Here is the promise: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). This verse does not say the word “hope,” it says “will”; you will be saved. You can know, today, that your name is registered in Heaven. That is our assurance of Heaven and eternal life. If you have confessed and believed, claim your salvation with confidence. This doesn’t say that we have settled all the difficult questions. This doesn’t say that we never struggle with doubt. It says I know the Bible is true and I believe Jesus died on the cross for me and I will follow Him. That is a decision of our will and not some emotion that we feel.

We must be careful about what we rejoice over. We like it when we get a raise in pay. We like it when we get a compliment. But we must rejoice when we remember, our name is registered in Heaven!!

Father, I praise you for my salvation. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
