Change is Inevitable
Press On
Scripture Reading: Philippians 3:12-16
Key Verse: Philippians 3:12
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Joseph and Mary certainly was, undoubtedly, getting use to change as they realized how much God had “rocked their boat.” Their plans went out the window, so to speak, and God replaced their plans with His divine plan. For those of us who choose to follow God, change is indeed, inevitable!
Our scripture for today affirms this truth in the life of the Apostle Paul. After teaching the Philippian Christ followers the truths of the Gospel, Paul concludes with this confession: “Not that I have already obtained all this…” The apostle knew that he was being changed, but that process would continue throughout this life. Paul said he was pressing on to obtain more and more. Change was inevitable because growth can’t exist without change.
As Christ followers, we must realize that, over the years, we will be challenged to change. God will navigate this change with us and in us. We will change our thinking about issues; we will change our values in this world; we will change our “behavior,” creating a whole new lifestyle. The Bible tells us that the “old things” (our previous lifestyle) go away, and all things become new. This renewal process involves many changes.
Let’s develop the Apostle Paul’s attitude: No, I have not become all that I hope to, but I press on to become more of what God calls me to. Have you changed since you received Jesus Christ? Are you still changing? If you answer “yes,” you’re in the norm!
Father, thank you for your continuous work to mold me into the person I want to be and you want me to be. I receive it In Jesus’ Name, amen.
