We all need to be reminded of God’s work in people; it shows His great love for us

The Star
God is Working – Part 4

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:12-18

Key Verse: Philippians 2:13

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

If you are like me, you are very aware of your own weaknesses. True followers of Jesus always wish they could do better and be better for their God and Savior. However, think for a few moments, what you were before coming to Jesus; think about your old self and how focused you were on worldly values. Now consider how far you have come with the help of God’s Spirit in you. Yes, we all wish we were better and stronger, but God is at work, and has been in your life.

When we consider the Christmas landscape, be sure to meditate on the star. The star represents God’s work of guiding lost people to Himself. Jesus reminded everyone that He did not come to simply call those who thought they were righteous, but to call sinners (Luke 5:32). In other words, if Jesus loved us this much before we came to Him and while we were selfish sinners, can’t we trust His love for us now that we have opened our hearts to Him?

We all need to be reminded of God’s work in people because it points to His great love for us. Jesus used the illustration of a shepherd who would leave 99 sheep who are safe to go find one sheep who had wandered off. God is working in us, to help us want to do His good purposes.

Father, help me to live this day in the reality of your love, let it overflow to others that need your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
