Change is Inevitable
Open Doors
Scripture Reading: Acts 16:6-10
Key Verse: Acts 16:10
After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
For the last couple of days, we’ve been following the journeys of Paul and Silas. They, like us, got up each day and made plans for the day. As we saw in yesterday’s devotional, God’s Spirit prevented them from going into one town to do their ministry. This was a change in their daily agenda. Today, I want you to note that as God closed one door, He opened the next one! The apostle had a vision calling to him from the next place he was to go! God did not always open doors in such a dramatic way, even for these early disciples. God’s methods in changing our plans vary greatly, but He, indeed, still changes our plans!
How will we know when God is opening an opportunity or if that opportunity is only an option caused by normal human interaction? It is my opinion that our desires can be the first indicator of an open door caused by God. Remember the truth taught in Philippians 2:13: “for it is God who works in you to will…” When we “will” something, or in other words, when we want something, that often is God’s work in us. Obviously, if that “want” is contrary to scripture or full of selfish motivations, God is not behind it!
Is God “moving your cheese” these days? Are you sensing a desire building in your heart for a change? Examine it prayerfully. The “Great Instigator” of change may be working in your life!
Father, help me to conquer any fear that so naturally comes when I’m confronted with change. Grant me peace that you will be walking with me through it all. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
