Is It Really God?
My Business Filter – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Romans 14:4
Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
The phrase, “It’s none of your business,” is a phrase that we have either said to someone or wanted to say! If we are honest, there probably have been times when others could have said that phrase to us. We all find it difficult at times to keep our nose out of other people’s business.
In our spiritual journey there is a balancing act in this area. We want everyone around us to know Jesus, and that should be our “business!” We want all our Christian brothers and sisters to mature and walk worthy of their calling. When we see another Christian “sinning” we may be nudged by God to say something. We must be very careful at this point; today’s scripture gives us this caution! Concern for another Christian’s behavior can cross over into judging very quickly. Romans 14:13 says: “Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another.” When can I know to say something and when should I keep quiet?
First, ask yourself how much you’ve truly prayed about this nudge that concerns another person. These nudges deserve much saturation in prayer. Second, is the person that you feel nudged to speak to violating a clear biblical truth? We should never push our personal convictions unless they are based on solid biblical teachings. Third, have you given God a chance to deal with this issue? I like the way the Apostle put it: “ … the Lord is able to make him stand.” In other words, God can work in people’s spiritual lives apart from us intervening. So, ask yourself if this nudge is any of your business?
Father, I don’t want to be a negative judging person. Guide me clearly. I will wait patiently and follow your lead cautiously. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
