Knowing God - March 2018

Since our all-knowing God sees all things; He can direct our paths perfectly

He is All-Present
Secure in Him

Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:7-9

Key Verses: Psalm 139:9-10

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

The omnipresence of God is a two-edged sword. On the one side is the fact that since God is everywhere at the same time, I am always being watched. Psalm 139:3 says it clearly: “You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.” This is why the New Testament words can be true, that God will judge every word that comes out of our mouths. This side of the sword is a little scary and challenging. It reminds us that we never lay aside our spiritual responsibilities. We can never separate our secular life from our church life. God goes with us as we leave church and enter the rest of our lives. Yes, we must go about each day with a sober sense of God’s eyes upon us!

The other side of this “sword” is the thrilling and deeply encouraging side. Our key verse for today uses these two phrases: “Your hand will guide me” and “your right hand will hold me.” Because God is everywhere, at all times, at the same time, I can’t leave His gracious care of me. I can expect His guidance today, no matter what unexpected place I may end up. God will give me direction, no matter the dilemma I may encounter, or complex problem that may come my way. The storms of life will come; high winds may blow, but God’s right hand will hold me fast! We don’t know what may come our way and rock our world, but we do know who holds our world. He is your God, a compassionate Father, the defender of the weak! He is ahead of every step you’ll take today!

“Father, your love and care are, indeed, too wonderful for my mind even to take in. I’ll rest today in the fact that you are present. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
