I Know I Received the Savior
Fear Factors
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-14
Key Verse: Luke 2:10-11
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
The shepherds were afraid. This isn’t too surprising. It wasn’t every day that an angel appeared among them. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was afraid when she first heard the news. Joseph, soon to take Mary as his wife, was afraid when he heard of her pregnancy. King Herod was afraid when he heard that a “king of the Jews” was born. Yes, around the Good News of the Messiah was a lot of fear, for a lot of different reasons!
I think that is still the same today. When someone is contemplating what to do with the message of the gospel, they are fearful. Everyone’s journey to faith is different, but most go through a season of fear. Questions like: What will life look like if I receive the Savior? What will my family say or how will they treat me if I receive the Savior? How about my friends? What will they say about this new turn in life?
If there was no fear, I wonder if there was clear understanding. Jesus is not a passing fashion. He brings entire transformation of life. How could any rational, thinking person not wrestle with some honest fear?
The angels had to say it to those in our scripture for today; the Holy Spirit continues to whisper it today: “Do not be afraid.” Where God guides, He provides. Receiving the Savior will result in a growing sense of peace. Not fear!
Father, thank you for leading through my season of fear and guiding me to yourself. Help my peace grow more and more. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
