Life Plugged In

We have passions for work, play, political parties, sports, gardening, etc., where does God fit in?

Plug In…Plant Deep
Devoted

Scripture Reading: Titus 3:1-8

Key Verse: Titus 3:14

Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives.

Devotion is not a word used in our Christian circles. Look around today and take note of the things that people are devoted to. Make a list. In fact, I think if you look closely, it will be harder to find someone who is not devoted to some interest. People have passions for work, play, political parties, sports, gardening, cooking, children and grandchildren. “Devotion” is not hard to find; it’s everywhere. The apostle Paul challenges us to be intentional with our devotion and make sure it is pointed toward worthy activities.

Our scripture today is clear: God’s people “must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good…” Our theme of “plugging in” is all about finding a good work and engaging. This is not to be casual or done lightly. We are to “plant deep!” We are to devote ourselves to this work. The question for today is not are you devoted, but what gets your devotion? Try to be honest. Have you “planted deep” into things of this world? Has your devotion been to activities that will make little difference in people’s lives ten years from now?

My guess is that you may be plugged in to some level of Kingdom work. Is it your passion or your “get out of jail” token? Is it about your guilt or is it about your passion? Be very cautious about where your heart is!

Father someday when I stand before you face to face, I know I will want to bring something eternal to lay at your feet. Help me to prepare for that moment now. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
