If we will slow our pace a little and seek God, He will help us live carefully

Being Thoughtful – Part 2

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 5:15-20

Key Verse: Ephesians 5:17

Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.

Are you a careful person naturally? Do you think things through; plan your life out? Or would the Apostle Paul’s words, “Don’t act thoughtlessly,” hit you between the eyes? Many people find it difficult to think strategically about their lives, but there is hope for all of us. God stands ready to help! If we will slow our pace a little and seek God, He will help us live more carefully. If we will take a few minutes each day to read the Bible, we can get better at understanding God’s will for us.

For example, in our suggested reading for today, God’s Word gives us three things to help us in living a careful life. The first is, “don’t be drunk on wine” (Ephesians 5:18). Our modern medicine is trying to teach our society that being “buzzed is being drunk.” Maybe you’ve noticed the commercial that says, “buzzed driving is drunk driving.” The point being, careful living can only truly be achieved when we are not under the influence of alcohol. Many don’t want to admit it, but most act and behave differently when drinking; saying things and/or doing things they normally wouldn’t say or do, even if they are not flat out drunk. Are you being careful or are you acting thoughtlessly? Let God’s Spirit speak to you and direct your life. (Continued)

Father, forgive me when I act thoughtlessly. May I glorify you in all my ways today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
