Fear of Failure
What If I Fail – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Numbers 13:25-33
Key Verse: Numbers 13:31
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.”
God’s people had come to a crossroads in their journey through the wilderness. It was time to claim the Promised Land or continue wandering in the wilderness. They sent spies to check out the land, preparing for the battle to claim it as theirs. As promised by God, these spies reported the land was beautiful—full of resources for a bountiful life. However, the people were many and powerful. Their towns were fortified and some of the men were giants. The majority of the spies concluded their evaluation with the dreadful statement: “Next to them we felt like grasshoppers” (Numbers 13:33). The only two spies that had great faith, urging God’s people to go and take the land, were Joshua and Caleb.
The fear of failure overwhelmed God’s people and they refused to claim the promises of God for their future. Have you ever allowed the fear of failure to stop you from pursuing a new adventure? I would guess most of us have been there and done that! As wonderful as many opportunities can be, most of the time there is a possibility of failure. With that fact, we must decide how we are going to live our lives—full of faith or full of fear. (Continued)
Father, I choose to trust you and challenge the fearful things in life. I know you will never leave me nor forsake me. In Jesus’s name, amen.
