Fear of Chaos – Need for Authority
“As He Said”

Scripture: Luke 1:69-70

He has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David
(as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),

Today’s scripture is taken from another song written by Zechariah, John the Baptist’s father. Zechariah was a priest who had faithfully served God for many years. His wife Elizabeth served God, side by side, with him. The Bible tells us that they “both were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly” (Luke 1:6). Elizabeth was unable to have children up to this point. As with Mary, the mother of Jesus, an angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah to declare the exciting news that God would heal Elizabeth and she would become pregnant. The angel also said that they should name the boy John and that John would prepare Israel to receive Jesus, God’s son. Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and wrote prophetic lyrics to a song.

Israel had lived in chaos for four hundred years… it had been a long time since they had heard from God. Out of the chaos, God spoke and brought two men into the world. One of human decent, John the Baptist, and one from divine decent, Jesus! If you take time to read all of Zechariah’s song, you will be able to sense the order and true authority that God operates with. His plan came about just as He had told the prophets many years before. (See Jeremiah 23:5-6.)

If God can orchestrate this detailed plan over thousands of years, can’t we trust Him to help us – in our lifetime? Do you have some chaos going on in your life? The God of order wants to replace that chaos with His peace. Ask, in faith, and watch Him work!

Father, I bring to you my confusion. With your help, I will exchange it for the peace of mind that comes when you are in charge! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
