With All Your Heart
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
We may think of our heart simply as the seat of our emotions. But in the Bible our heart is more than that; it is composed of our emotions, yes, but also of our mind, our will, and our conscience. Our heart is the source of our feelings, thoughts, intentions, and our sense of condemnation or guilt when we’ve done something wrong. To sum it all up, it is the center, the core and the battlefield for of love of God.
To trust the Lord with all our heart is not a one-time thing. It is the daily battle with every breath we take; it is a lifelong process in learning to love and trust a little more each day. It’s the purification process!
“From within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man unclean” (Mark 7:21-23).
Our biggest problem is not external but internal; all of us have a heart problem and to love the Lord with it we need to guard our heart.
Father, help us become more aware of the things in our heart that are not of you and give us the discipline and obedience to remove them so that our capacity to love you is greater.
