Knowing God - March 2018

With God all things are possible; our God is omnipotent; all powerful! Do you live that way?

He is All-Loving
Perfect Love – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 1 John 4:16-21

Key Verse: 1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Yesterday’s devotional describing perfect love is more than theology, it comes down to where we live. When Jesus lives in me and I’m following Him in my daily life, I will look like God in many ways. The Apostle John said it this way: “God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like Him” (1 John 4:16b-17, emphasis mine).

Our lives should drive out fear. In other words, our family members and co-workers should never have to fear some negative, uncontrolled outburst. Since we never have to fear that of God, we should pass this on to those around us. Let God’s love so saturate your life—your mind—that you live conscious of it throughout your day. Remind yourself with Post-it notes if necessary, but don’t let God’s perfect love for you get buried too deeply in your busy life. When you keep God’s love at the top, it will naturally spill over on those around you. They may not thank you, but you will know to thank God.

God’s love is consistent. Let your love imitate that with others. Refuse mood swings and a roller coaster lifestyle. Your feelings don’t have to rule your behavior. Take control by the power of God in you! Perfect love drives your life, not temporary and fickle feelings! You’ll love yourself more when you live love out!

“Father, today I will take control of my behavior and words, conforming them in the shape of your perfect love! Grant me strength and wisdom in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
