The Devil and Doubt
Did God Really Say…? – Part 3
Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:1-5
Key Verse: Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
For the last two days we have been looking at one of the devil’s favorite schemes: Get God’s people to doubt God’s Word. Today let’s study ways to fight doubt and grow our faith strong.
Fighting doubt starts with proper input into our minds. Colossians 3:2 reminds us: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Doubt grows when our minds are receiving too much input from the worldly perspectives. Faith grows when we fill our minds with the Word of God. Romans 10:17 – “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. “ Yes, if you want to get serious about fighting doubt, get serious about your reading schedule of God’s Word. Read the first ten chapters of the Old Testament book of Joshua. Then turn to the New Testament and read through the book of Philippians. Read slowly, making notes of verses that really speak to you. Pay special attention to the acts of God in behalf of His children, as well as the promises He has made to us!
To make sure we interpret God’s Word correctly, be sure to check the context of any verse you are looking at. Read a few verses before and after it to make sure you are not taking the verse out of context. Also, ask yourself about the culture of the day, realizing God speaks to each generation with the same truths but with words and symbols that fit them.
Father, I open my mind to you. Please fill it with your truths. Grant me understanding of your Word and the power to defeat doubt. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
