Luke 7, tells of a wonderful event in Jesus’s life on earth.
While dining at a religious leader’s home, a woman slipped into the courtyard when they were eating and began to weep. This woman was a repentant sinner, miserable for the life she had been living. She brought perfume to pour on Jesus’s feet, for she recognized His worthiness.
The religious leader was secretly judging Jesus. He thought that a true prophet would know who this woman was and would reject her. It shows how far the religious leaders of that day had drifted from the true heart of God.
Jesus, of course, knew this man’s heart and the thoughts he was having. Jesus taught him on the spot how God forgives sinners, even the “really bad ones”. Jesus made it clear that those who worship Him most are those who He has forgiven the most.
Jesus then turned to the woman and started the spiritual jubilee in her life. He said the simple, but life changing, words: “Your sins are forgiven.” The shame and guilt were washed away, and she received a fresh start in life. If we define “jubilee” as a time of rejoicing, surely, she was having that right then and there!
Let these words echo in your ears for the rest of your life: “Your faith has saved you; go in peace!” Let’s determine to enjoy this abundant life Jesus bought for us!
Father, my faith in You has saved me from sin and all its damning effects on my life and soul! I enter my day in peace! In Jesus’s Name, amen.
