Five Godly Men and the Lies They Believed

God has the power to work through all obstacles, but we must not compromise our standards of honesty and purity!

You Must Compromise to Succeed
God’s Favor

Scripture Reading: Genesis 12:1-7

Key Verse: Genesis 12:2

“I will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.

We really don’t know why, but God chose Abraham to be the leader of a nation that God would call His own. Abraham had found favor in God’s sight. Today’s Key Verse reminds us of God’s promise to Abraham. Wouldn’t we all love to hear God say to us: I’m going to make you great; I’m going to give you great blessings and all the earth will be blessed through you? All Abraham had to do to enjoy this great covenant was to walk in obedience to God.

In the very same chapter that we read of God’s blessings promised to Abraham, we read of Abraham’s compromise in truth telling! Soon after Abraham received all these assurances from God, he lied to the Egyptian king. Abraham was afraid that the Egyptians would kill him to get to Sarah if he admitted that she was his wife. Though Sarah was his half-sister, it was still a deception that God watched happen by the man God had just promised would be great! Abraham’s compromise of truth nearly cost him his wife. God stepped in and saved Sarah from being violated by the Egyptians!

God wants to grant favors to you if you are a Christ follower! We must learn to trust Him and know we can succeed without compromising our ethics or morals. God has the power to work through all obstacles, but we must not compromise our standards of honesty and purity!

Father, thank you for wanting to bless my life with many favors! Remind me today to trust you and not manipulate truth to accomplish my work! In Jesus’ name, amen.
