Don’t make any moves without the peace of God

How to Be Blessed By God
Finding God’s Will

Scripture: Joshua 2:1

Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he said, “especially Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

Joshua faced his new adventures with a plan and a confidence that God was his helper.  I think most Christ followers would do anything and go anywhere if God, physically, appeared before them and told them to do it!  The “fearful” part of any new opportunity is the question:  Is this really God’s will for my life?  Let’s look at a few ways to “spy out” these opportunities before jumping into them!

First, listen to the “spy” of time.  Does this opportunity give you time to think and pray over it?  If it is an opportunity that is demanding a rush decision, it probably is not of God!  God is not a “last minute” or rush kind of God.  He plans far better than we do!

Second, listen to the “spy” of experience.  Find someone who has “been there and done that” if at all possible.  Joshua didn’t rush into the Promised Land.  He sent two spies in and then listened to their reports.  Proverbs 19:20 says:  “Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.”

Finally, listen to the “spy” of peace.  After we give God time, after we listen to advice from others, then we must listen to our own hearts.  Is there deep peace about getting into this new adventure of life?  Don’t make any moves without the peace of God.  The Apostle Paul said it best in Philippians 4:7 – And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

“Father, I know you have many wonderful opportunities for me to enjoy in my life.  Help me to be courageous in my heart and wise in my mind!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
