We must never get numb to the reality that people are walking in darkness

Do Quitters Bug You?
Wandering Believers – Part 2

Scripture Reading: James 5:19-20

Key Verse: James 5:19

My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back…

My title for this week’s theme is, “Do Quitters Bug You?” I hope your answer is “yes.” When a Christian brother or sister seems to be quitting, it should bug us! I’m afraid God’s family isn’t bothered enough when someone in the church family quits.

James is telling the body of Christ that they should go after quitters. That quitter, according to James, is heading toward spiritual death (James 5:2). What a joy to be involved with the restoration of someone who was walking toward spiritual disaster. We need to be bothered to the point of action when we see someone ready to quit.

What does it mean to “wander from the truth”? The truth here is everything about Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the truth, the way and the life” (John 14:6). When a person starts to stray from Jesus—starts to roam from all Jesus taught—we must step in and do something. It is true that we can’t force a person to come back to the truth of Jesus. However, God loves that person and will help us if we put forth the effort.

Do you know someone who fits this picture? Does any name come to your mind? If so, start praying about what could be done to show this person the error of their way! May God use you to save that person from death.

Father, give me wisdom when I see someone struggling to stay close to you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
