Lessons from Luke

A mature Believer will always say “I am grateful for God’s “yes’s” and God’s “no’s”

Justice Will Come – Part I

Scripture Reading: Luke 18: 1-8

Key Verse: Luke 18:1

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.

There are really two basic lessons in the “Scripture Reading” section for today.

The first one is that we are to pray always and never give up. If you are a Believer, you know first-hand how hard it is to continually pray. You also know that it is easier to give up than to keep praying for something and never see it come about. In other words, we all know how hard sincere praying is (especially on a consistent basis).

I’ll never forget what one of my college professors said to us planning to be preachers: “You can feel free to preach on prayer often. It is a subject that Believers always need help with.” In my 45 years of pastoring, I have found that professor’s statement to be true.

If you want to try a little experiment, go ask some of your Christian friends if they feel their prayer life is fantastic and that it is all that they want it to be. I would be very surprised if you could find one person who would say that about their prayer life.

For me personally, I have been working on my prayer life since I’ve been in the 8th Grade, and I still feel it needs more work.

The good news is, the Bible promises that God’s Spirit that lives in all Believers and that it is there to help us with our prayers: “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” (Romans 8:26-27).

There are two lessons in these two verses. First, we are weak when it comes to praying as we should. Don’t let the Devil make you feel like it’s only you that can’t seem to get your prayers right.

Second, God knows what the Spirit pleads for us believers. Jesus said to pray and never give up… I hope that this devotion will help you to do just that.

Sometimes we ask this question: “will God answer my prayers?”.

If you are a Believer, know that God answers all your prayers. There is no such thing as an unanswered prayer. However, God’s answer is not always what we want to hear. A mature Believer says: “I am grateful for God’s “yes’s” and God’s “no’s”. We are to trust His wisdom rather than our own thinking.

Father, with your help, I will pray and never give up! In Jesus’s Name, amen.
