De-Clutter Your Walk with God
Grow
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:1-9
Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:2
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation
A second de-cluttering word we must clearly understand is “grow.” The Bible paints this in terms of a newborn baby born into this world. A loving family receives this baby with excitement and joy. However, a normal family desires this baby to change and not remain an infant for the rest of its life. As much as we love our babies, we want to see them grow up!
The Apostle Peter tells the new believers to be like newborn babies and crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it they would “grow up in their salvation” (1 Peter 2:2). Just like our newborn infants, this is a natural step. God puts within the hearts of His children this desire to pray, read His Word, and hang out with His other children. The Apostle Paul makes this clear in Philippians 2:13 – “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.”
A third de-cluttering word is community. God intended for His children to develop their own community. This community would provide encouragement to each participant. Those in this community would share meals, Bible studies, and burdens with one another. This was not to be a closed community, but one that was continually inviting others to join by having faith in God’s grace. The community helps us with our focus!
Father, thank you for bringing about the church—the body of believers that would support my joining with you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
