I Know I Need a Savior!
We Can Really Know
Scripture Reading: John 4:27-41
Key Verse: John 4:42
They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
Jesus was resting by a well called “Jacob’s Well” when a Samaritan woman came by to get water. He had three good reasons not to talk to her. First, she was a woman and, in their culture a woman shouldn’t be included in theological discussions. Secondly, she was a Samaritan, meaning a mixed breed of Jewish and Gentile blood. A faithful Jew in their culture would not talk or associate with these half breeds. Finally, Jesus was tired and needed rest from the ministry He had been doing. Yet, Jesus was willing to ignore all these issues for a higher calling. He wanted this woman to know she needed a Savior and she had one in Jesus. During the interchange between Jesus and this woman, a transformational event happened. The woman believed and was brought into God’s family! She ran back to her town and began to testify to all of her friends about what Jesus did for her! John’s gospel lets us know many believed because of her testimony. After the town’s people heard Jesus themselves, they proclaimed that they believed, no longer because of this woman’s words, but because of Jesus’ words directly to them.
I know I need a Savior and that causes me to testify to those around me about our Savior Jesus Christ. Do you know what I know? Do you know you need a Savior? Have you received Jesus as your Savior? If so, don’t let that Good News die at your fingertips; share it.
Father, thank you for saving my soul and making me whole! Now give me the courage to share this with others who are lost. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
