God’s Covenant:
The Covenant of Provision – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:14-20
Key Verse: Philippians 4:19
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
It is an amazing thing that the God of this universe would determine to enter into a covenant with us. We are His created beings and His love for us far surpasses the levels of love we feel for our own children. I have often said, if God loves me as much as I love my family, good enough! The truth is His love far surpasses any love we are even capable of.
It is this love that forms the foundation for the aspect of the covenant that we are studying today. I’ve called this the covenant of provision. The Apostle Paul describes it as the God who will meet all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To enjoy the riches of this aspect of the covenant, we must understand the word: Needs. The Greek word that the apostle chose to use was “chreia.” The literal translation of this word speaks of necessity, duty or business.
As we try to understand what God deems as a necessity, we need to grasp His world view. If you make a combined income of $25,000 a year, you are in the top 90% of the world’s wealthiest people. As God looks at our necessities, He is also looking at His children in Africa. He knows and understands our different economics. He knows what it takes for each of us to survive. Food, clothes and shelter are three of the basic necessities. God commits Himself to being the supplier of these to His family of believers. (Continued)
Father, thank you for your covenant of provision. I will trust you to provide any need that I may have. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
