Our flesh loves to justify itself avoiding any work of self-control

Fine Tuning to the Voice
Voice of Division

Scripture Reading: Jude 1:17-23

Key Verse: Jude 1:19

These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

Jesus warned us not to listen to other voices of the world.  In our scripture for today Jude warns of those who speak of ungodly desires; scoffers who want to bring division among God’s children.  These voices are from “mere natural instincts” rather than from the voice of God.

As we learn to fine tune our spiritual ears to hear God’s voice, we need to readily recognize what is not His voice.  When we have thoughts that cater to the ungodly desires of our flesh, we can know that is not of God.  Don’t get confused when sorting out the voices in your head.  God does not tempt us to do wrong.  Remember the words of Jesus: “When tempted, no one should say, God is tempting me.  For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone” (James 1:13).  Our flesh loves to justify itself avoiding any work of self-control.  Be careful not to believe this voice of justification.  God’s voice will never speak to us in ways that lead us into sinful behavior.

Jude goes on to warn us about division within God’s people.  Whenever we hear a voice that tends to bring disunity, we can know it is not God’s voice.  Any thought that destroys the unity of us and those we worship with is a voice we don’t want to listen to!

Father, I want to have a spirit of discernment so I can know your voice.  Grant me your wisdom to know when a voice is from the evil one.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
