The Importance of Relating
Prayers Unhindered

Scripture Reading:  1 Peter 3:1-6

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

The Apostle Peter, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is giving us a good principle about prayer.  If we value our prayers we must value our relationships.  To pray to God while our relationships are in turmoil is to hinder the effects of our prayers.  There are so many instructions in the New Testament about God’s view of relationships.  Romans 14:19 reminds us to “make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.”  Ephesians 4:3 tells us to make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.  We find another instruction in Hebrews 12:14 that tells us to “make every effort to live in peace with all men.”

            Are you putting forth “every effort” to do what leads to peace in your relationships?  Are you making every effort to keep unity between you and your spouse?  Is there anything that has come between you and your spouse that is destroying peace in your relationships?  Are you doing all you can do to settle the matter and allow peace to return to your lives together?

            Why is this “effort” so important?  Our scripture for today tells us that our prayers can be hindered by inconsideration and lack of respect for those in relationship with you!  Do you want your prayers to be powerful and effective?  If your answer is yes, then your energies must be given to putting value on your spouse.

Father, I need help in being selfless in my relationships.  Please remind me to love and respect those around me.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
