Our singing God’s praise should not be based on whether we feel like it or not

Praise Him with My Body
Use Your Voice

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 96:1-9

Key Verse: Psalm 69:30-31a

I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. 31 This will please the Lord….

When God made our bodies, He created us with vocal cords.  Our bodies were engineered to communicate, but God wanted more than talk to come out of our vocal cords.  Our printed key verse reminds us that it pleases God when we use our voices to sing praise and worship songs to Him!

In Psalm 96 the Psalmist David instructs us to sing songs that proclaim God’s salvation.  Our songs should have words that depict what God did for us through Jesus’ work on the cross!  The Psalmist also tells us to sing songs that declare God’s glory and His miraculous deeds.  We sing because God created us to enjoy the arts, which include music.  Songs are a beautiful way to paint the picture of who God is and how loving His heart is toward His creation.

In Psalm 96:4 David reminds us that we should sing because the Lord is “most worthy of praise.”  It saddens me—and I believe God—when some of His children skip the song service part of a church service.  Our motivation for singing should not be based on whether we feel like it or not.  It should not be based on whether we like the style of music.  We should sing praises to God simply because He is worthy!

Father, I will sing my praises to you.  I will sing my worship of you!  I declare that you are worthy!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
